Most people aren’t born with a perfect smile. Over time, untreated tooth or jaw misalignment can affect the way you chew and contribute to tooth decay by making it more difficult to remove particles of food from between the teeth.
Our UK and USA-trained orthodontists can correct a bad bite, create room for erupting teeth, promote healthy jaw growth and improve your smile and your self-esteem using state-of-the-art technology including low profile metal braces, clear ceramic braces, “hidden” braces (Incognito) and transparent aligner technology (Invisalign). We specialise in using orthodontic treatments that minimise discomfort and shorten treatment time.
At Soyombo Dental Specialists Melton Mowbray, our specialist clinicians are experienced in a range of orthodontic treatments using fixed or removable braces in Melton Mowbray to straighten your teeth and to give you your best smile. The good news is that braces are better than ever, leading to improved patient comfort and reduced treatment times. There are also more discreet options available.
Orthodontic treatment is about making the best of your teeth; it’s about improving the harmony of your mouth and jaws. Once you can bite together correctly, you can eat more comfortably and care for your teeth and gums more easily, and of course, you will have the smile of your dreams.
More than 200,000 children and teenagers in England and Wales have treatment within the NHS every year, with growing numbers of adults and young people seeking treatment on a private basis. Dr Ayodele Soyombo’s eldest patient to date was over 80, so age is no barrier to the teeth of your dreams.

Modern orthodontics offer a range of discreet options for patients who may feel self-conscious about wearing braces. Braces today are smaller, more comfortable and more inconspicuous. The introduction of invisible braces in Melton Mowbray marked the beginning of a new era when patients of all ages could have more options to straighten their teeth and have a perfect smile.
Incognito™ lingual brace
The Incognito™ brace is the very latest advance in invisible lingual orthodontics which involves cast-gold brackets custom-made to fit onto the inside (lingual) surface of your teeth making it virtually invisible.
As well as being discreet and comfortable, it also offers all the benefits and precision of a fixed brace, ensuring the best possible results.
Soyombo Dental Specialists Melton Mowbray offers incognito, or invisible braces. Treatments can take up to two years but most of our patients begin to notice an improvement in just a few months.
Fixed Braces in Melton Mowbray (Clear Ceramic and/or Metal)
Traditional fixed braces have evolved to be more efficient than ever, with the introduction of low friction self-ligating braces, which use lighter forces to move your teeth.
Although similar in look to traditional metal braces, self-ligating braces (such as Damon brackets) feature a small spring clip instead of using small elastic bands to attach the wire to your brace’s brackets, creating less friction and allowing for more efficient tooth movement.
During orthodontic treatment, your teeth are held in position by your braces, but once they’re removed, stretched elastic fibres in the gum try to pull the teeth back to their original position – something we call “orthodontic relapse”. It takes time for these fibres to remodel and stop pulling on the teeth. Continued growth of the jaws can also encourage the teeth to move once treatment has been completed.
To guarantee that your teeth stay straight after braces it’s important to wear retainers. To help avoid orthodontic relapse we provide our patients with retainers, which hold the teeth in their new position.
NHS Orthodontic Care
As part of our service to the community, we have taken on an NHS orthodontic contract which enables us to treat a certain number of patients under the age of 18 who fit the stipulated criteria (IOTN 4 and 5, PLACE LINK to Criteria – http://www.bos.org.uk/Public-Patients/Orthodontics-for-children-teens/Fact-File-FAQ/What-Is-The-IOTN).
To find out if you’re eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment you’ll need to first visit your general dentist for an initial assessment. If they determine a possible need for treatment, they will then refer you to us for a free NHS consultation. During this free consultation, your teeth will be assessed using a set of measurements called the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN).
Some of the dental problems that typically qualify for NHS treatment include:
- Missing teeth
- Protrusion of the teeth more than 6mm
- Severe crowding of the teeth
- Abnormal bites that cause problems with eating and drinking Borderline cases are also given an aesthetic score to consider the appearance of the teeth.
If you are not suitable for NHS care we can provide self-funded private treatment. NHS treatment is carried out by our experienced team of specialist orthodontists and orthodontic therapists. As there are limited places, you may have to join a waiting list.
Private orthodontic care offers a number of benefits over NHS treatment, such as more flexible appointment times, no waiting list and a choice of discreet braces.
You can contact us directly to arrange private orthodontic treatments and consultation in Melton Mowbray – you don’t need to be referred to us by your dentist.
